The Benton Museum is the University of Connecticut’s fine arts museum, with a permanent collection of over 6,500 works of art. It also hosts special exhibitions, concerts, campus art walks, and other public events. As Graphic Designer, here is my process and iterations of my contributions to the Benton.

This exhibition is a collaboration with the UConn College of Engineering with a focus on clouds. Dr Georgios Matheou combines theory, modelling, computational algorithms, in situ measurements, and remote sensing data to understand and predict multi-physics fluid flows. In coordination with this NSF grant, the Benton has mounted an exhibition of clouds in contemporary photography.

My design process focused on visualizing the dynamic nature of clouds by using symmetry to create a sense of order, while also using gradients to introduce movement, depth, and a feeling of continuous transformation. I began by exploring the natural movement of clouds through organic line drawings, which evolved into symmetrical forms that still had the essence of those natural line drawings. I wanted to visualize the combination of structure and unpredictability. Together, these elements represent the unpredictable nature of clouds and their constantly shifting forms.
